Naturism Today

CHM Montalivet, 2022

The International Naturist Federation defines naturism as “a way of life in harmony with nature whose activities are not directed towards profit. It is characterized by the practice of common nudity, with the intention of encouraging respect for oneself, respect for others and respect for the environment.” Upon reviewing naturism in different cultural contexts across the world, one can assert that they all operate along essentially the same ideals. But what can naturism offer to unify all these experiences into something unique? Perhaps the modern idea of naturism as something beyond a recreational or temporary activity implies that naturism must apply an intersectional philosophy, and thus permit everyone with a wish to experience it.

For people to coexist peacefully, there must be empathy. By recognising others’ contexts and experiences, real change can be achieved. Naturism today is about encouraging all these different opinions and visions of the world to find common ground where everyone can achieve true harmony and all that it entails. The vision for the future is a naturism that can provide a safe and joyful space that can be shared by all.
